No 982 smoothing plane in the making – 7
Just a few pictures of the wip of the adjuster mechanism for the No 982. I seem to miss a lot of photo opportunities but I will use the few I have got.
Pictures showing some of the milling operations for the main adjuster body. The making of this component also includes some lathe work which is not shown.
The almost complete travellers which engage the blade. Yet to be drilled and parted from their carriers.
Hey Karl,
Was looking forward to seeing the process involved in making the adjusters & it didn’t disappoint.
I can’t begin to imagine the amount of work it took to get the 32 travellers to that point considering you only have the one CNC mill & you have to do all the programming from scratch!
Perpetually fascinating!!!

Hi Black (as I am not your doctor or a sibling)
The CNC mill that I use is quite an old Bridgeport Interact controlled by a Heidenhain TNC 151 (electronic abacus), and it is only 3 axis.
At the moment I am still making the adjuter for the transitional plane, which is a straightforward Norris type. Even that is still very time consuming. I will do a posting this week.
Thanks for the appreciation
